Jazz pianist, keyboardist and composer Nina Ott
is a commanding improviser and performer with an
affinity toward post-bop and afro-Caribbean jazz.

Born in Detroit, into a musical household, Nina was
surrounded by all types of music as a youngster and
was naturally drawn to a life in music. She began studying
piano at age 7, eventually earning a degree in classical
piano performance from Western Michigan University.

Ms. Ott has travelled extensively as a performer playing
in a wide variety of contexts. She has performed at
many notable jazz venues including The Green Mill in
Chicago, Detroit Hart Plaza, The Harleqion Club,
Cliff Bell's in Detroit, Ryle's Boston,
San Jose Jazz Festival and the Stanford Jazz Festival in Palo Alto, CA.

She has played and recorded with many notable musicians including
Jeff Parker, Ralph Peterson Jr., Mark Turner, Eguie Castrillo,
Pepe Espinosa, Mark Walker, John Calloway, Leonard King, Andrew Bishop and trombonist Vincent Chandler. Most recently, she was invited to do a residency and performance at the Shalin Liu Center in Rockport, MA
with her quintet which she co-leads with bassist and
composer, Chris Lopes.

Nina is active in jazz education and has taught
on faculty at Berklee College, Stanford Jazz Workshop
as well as having done workshops for Cranbrook Academy and
SF Jazz among others.
